established in 2005, art&art’s project came to life through the organization of a surging cultural initiative, that aimed to support modern and contemporary latin american art.
Under the direction of Founder and Chairman, Juan Carlos Maldonado, the core of Art&Art Collection focuses on the study and the recognition of Latin American geometric abstraction’s effort, hailing mainly from Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Cuba, Mexico, Uruguay, and Venezuela, from the 1930’s to the 1970’s.
Art&Art Collection provides a nearly comprehensive overview and an inventory of the intricate histories of abstract and constructivist art in Latin America. It follows the chronological unfolding of cold abstraction and constructivism from the interwar years and includes the work of such European and North-American artists as Josef Albers, Victor Vasarely and Gene Davis whose interest in geometric planes, chromatic relations, optical and kinetic effects prompts dialogues with the work of Latin American practitioners.
Because we believe in the potential of art and knowledge of it as instruments for social change, Art&Art’s introduction and promotion of these Latin American masters is as important as the collected works themselves. This is why in 2016 we opened an exhibition space in Miami’s Design District, to share the collection with the local and international community that visits Miami.
Our main mission is to increase cultural awareness and to stimulate the education and appreciation for the geometric abstract style, beyond nationalities, by making our collection of artworks and documents accessible to individuals and organizations for consultation, scholastic research, and loan.
Our continued commitment to increase the awareness and knowledge of the Constructive style begins with this Web project. Visitors are encouraged to research and explore biographies, movements, and masterworks in the different sections of our site.
